Family Library

You can access and borrow our resources from the physical and digital collections, free of charge. We offer print books, eBooks, CDs, DVDs, games, and teaching tools like charts, flash cards and visuals.
We curate our collection of high-quality information carefully, in consultation with health-care providers at BC Children's Hospital. It covers a variety of health topics, like:
- Indigenous wellness
- Coping with new diagnoses
- Living with chronic conditions
- Mental health and well-being
- Mindfulness
- Neurodiversity
- Social and emotional learning
- Medical tests and procedures
The health literacy information specialist can help you find what you need. We can do literature searches for you. We monitor requests, and grow our collection in response to your needs.
Borrowing items
You can borrow items in person or request them through the catalogue, by email or by phone. We mail items throughout BC and Yukon, free of charge. We include a pre-paid Canada Post return shipping label with all orders.
You can borrow all physical items for four weeks. If there is no waitlist, you may renew your loaned items up to three times before returning them. The length of time for eBook loans may vary.
Visit our online library catalogue to explore the resources available to you. If you don’t find what you need, please contact us.
Visiting in person
We invite families, caregivers and patients to visit the Family Library while they are visiting or staying at the hospital. You can borrow items, use our computers and printer, and speak with the health literacy information specialist.
The Family Library also has a small selection of toys, puzzles and entertainment activities for families, children and youth to enjoy.
