BC Children's has moved up from sixth to fifth place in the world's best pediatric hospitals, according to Newsweek in its annual World's Best Specialized Hospitals 2023 ranking awards.
"We are so proud to be among the top five pediatric health-care centres in the world," says Sarah Bell, chief operating officer, BC Children's. "This ranking is a reflection of our strong patient and family-centered care approach and the incredibly dedicated and skilled staff, health-care providers, researchers, and volunteers."
The awards rank hospitals in 11 medical fields: cardiology, cardiac surgery, oncology, endocrinology, neurology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, gastroenterology, pulmonology, pediatrics and urology. Global research firm Statista partnered with Newsweek, ranked 200 pediatric hospitals on accreditations/certifications, patient reported outcome measures, and a survey of 40,000 medical professionals.
"To place in this list at all is a feat unto itself," says Dr. Jana Davidson, chief medical officer, BC Children's. "There are 200 hospitals around the world ranked. And to move from sixth place last year, to fifth place this time, in the midst of challenging environments including the pandemic, and moving to a digital health records system, is just incredible. Thank you to all of our residents and medical staff for your tireless work and commitment to our patients."
