All new graduates hired as a registered nurse (RN) or registered psychiatric nurse (RPN) will be placed into a regular or temporary position, with a minimum 0.7 to full-time-employee hours for the first six months of employment.
The program is available for the first 18 months after nursing graduation and provides new graduates the unique opportunity to consolidate their nursing practice and start their career specializing in either pediatrics, child & youth mental health, perinatal, oncology or adult mental health nursing.

BC Children's Hospital offers ongoing hiring opportunities specifically for "New Grad Nurses" and these jobs are searchable by the new grad term. In addition, individuals who have graduated from their nursing program and are registered with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) are welcome to apply for all jobs for which they are qualified.
The BC Children's nursing team includes designated New Grad Leaders who are available to support new graduate nurses and connect them to supports and ongoing training opportunities. Our team gets lots of questions about getting hired with BC Children's Hospital, and some of the most common answers they give are:
- Yes, we hire new graduates!
- Yes, we hire new graduate nurses who have completed their final preceptorship at another health care facility.
- Yes, we hire new graduate nurses who didn't have their final placement in pediatrics.
- Yes, we hire new graduates directly from school – having medical / surgery experience is not required.
