Grants & Funding Opportunities

Have a great idea for a global health project? Take a look at these funding opportunities for research, capacity building, and implementation projects. This includes funding opportunities for fellows involved in global child and women's health.

Application Deadline: Applications will be considered on a rolling basis

We are pleased to announce the launch of the new Social/Global Health Impact Fellowship & Training (SHIFT) combining research, education and clinical experiences with the goal to train the next generation of medical leaders in global health and social medicine at BC Children's Hospital and Women's Hospital + Health Centre (C&W). This two-year post-residency fellowship will support physicians in developing the leadership and scholarly skills to improve health equity for women+, children, and their families in Canada and in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC's).

The clinical curriculum will include inpatient and outpatient learning experiences with a focus on advanced skills in trauma-informed, relational, and culturally safe clinical care. Training sites include urban, community, place-based, rural, and remote health programs aimed at advancing health equity.

The fellow will design, implement and evaluate a research study with the support of a team of mentors from C&W and UBC.  The research study will be done through a collaboration with one of the Institute for Global Health's established partnerships in an LMIC. The objective of the research project will be to meet the partner community's needs as articulated by the community, in the fellow's area of interest, and in alignment with the strategic priorities of the Institute for Global Health at C&W.  The fellow will be expected to present their research findings and if timing allows to publish the findings.

During this fellowship, there may also be a concurrent opportunity to complete a formal training program, such as a graduate level (Master's or PhD) degree program within the Women+ and Children's Health Sciences (WACH) or a Master's in Public Health at UBC or at another institution.

Fellowship Program Details:

  • 2-year time commitment
  • Flexible start date in 2025
  • Fellows will spend a dedicated amount of time during the fellowship in an LMIC (funding available)
  • Salary will be provided at the PAR-BC R5/R6 level
  • Please be aware that this is not an accredited fellowship program in Canada. It therefore does not lead to formal subspeciality accreditation, nor is it formally recognized as counting towards the practice eligibility route of the Royal College.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Currently enrolled in a Canadian university Postgraduate Medical Program (PGY4+)
  • Have or eligible for the FRCP/SC (Fellow of The Royal College of Physicians/Surgeons of Canada) examination, or equivalent training/qualification for a subspecialty trainee.
