We provide cardiac care to children in communities across BC.
The BC Children's Hospital Provincial Partners program sends teams comprised of a pediatric cardiologist, a nurse clinician, and an echocardiographer throughout BC and the Yukon. This provides the same level of cardiology service families can expect from BC Children's Hospital without the added stress to families of travelling to the Lower Mainland, truly bringing care closer to home for the children of BC and the Yukon.
During the 2019-2020 financial year, we held 25 travelling outreach clinics, hosted 1862 consultations, and performed 1107 echocardiograms using a portable echocardiograph machine generously donated by the BC Children's Hospital Foundation. The BC Children’s Hospital cardiology team also held 70 clinic days in Surrey, BC.
Patients are typically infants, children and youth who are referred due to:
- symptoms of structural or electrical heart conditions
- family history of inherited heart conditions
- congenital heart defects, heart function issues, acquired heart disease or electrical heart conditions that require long-term surveillance and follow up
- Surgical heart patients prior to surgery and post-surgery follow up.
