Generation Health Clinic promotes healthy living for the entire family.
About

Generation Health Clinic is a family-centred healthy living program that offers medical, nutrition, and mental health assessment and supports for children and teens aged 6 to 17 living with overweight or obesity and specific health concerns. 

The focus is on improving health and well-being by working with families to build the foundation for healthy living through family connections, balanced eating, active living, mental health, screen time, and sleep. 

The program is delivered by an interdisciplinary team consisting of a physician, a registered dietitian, a mental health professional and an exercise specialist. It is available by referral from a physician or nurse practitioner.

  • Children and teens 6-17 years of age 
  • BMI (Body Mass Index)-for-age greater than 97th percentile OR 
  • BMI-for-age between 85th and 97th percentile and specific health concerns 

Parents/caregivers and child/teen must be interested in making healthy living changes and able to attend appointments and group sessions.


After referral, eligible families attend an assessment appointment followed by a virtual feedback appointment.

Group program

We offer a fun interactive 10-week group program that supports children/teens and their families in building the foundation for healthy living through family connections, balanced eating, active living, mental health, screen time and sleep.

The group program includes weekly:

  • One educational evening session (1.5-2 hours) facilitated by a registered dietitian, a mental health professional and an exercise specialist 
  • One family fun activity weekend session (1 hour) run by an exercise specialist from the YMCA
Alternative support options may be offered if a group program is not the best option for a child/teen or family.

  • Canadian 24-hour Movement Guidelines: Explore the 24-hour movement guidelines for children aged 0 to 4, children aged 5 to 17, and/or adults aged 18 to 64. The guidelines integrate physical activity, sedentary behaviours, and sleep
  • YThrive: Check out the YMCA's home workout videos for all ages
