Why is this surgery recommended?

• When a knee cap is too high it can be difficult to extend the knee and lead to pain
• The surgery is done to:
  • Lower a knee cap that is sitting too high on the leg
  • Tighten a patellar tendon/knee cap after a distal femoral extension osteotomy

What happens during surgery?

Incision is made on the front of the leg just below the knee.

The patellar tendon (which attaches the knee cap to the shin bone) is pulled tight and sewn in place.
