Primary Health Care

The nurse practitioners provide primary care to birth to 17-years old youth who do not have a primary care provider (e.g. GP; family doctor).

As of February 2022 we are unable to accept any new referrals until further notice. Please continue to check our website.

Our nurse practitioners provide care to:

  • Children/youth from birth to 17-years; at this point, a referral is required from a pediatrician or other specialists to this clinic
  • Children/youth without a primary care provider (i.e. no family doctor).

We provide comprehensive primary health-care services to children and youth between the ages of birth to 17-years old.

We are not a walk-in clinic, please call to book an appointment.

Immunizations

Please contact your local community public health unit for immunizations or the Family Immunization Clinic at BC Children's Hospital. We do not provide immunizations at our clinic.

Our other services

  • Provide supportive primary health care services to sub-specialty clinics at BC Children's hospital and link patients with Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children when appropriate.
  • Have a collaborative practice with the asthma educators and sub-specialists at BC Children's Asthma Program for diagnosis treatment and management of asthma.
  • Mentorship of Nurse Practitioner students.
  • Bridge services to other subspecialty services.

Questions

 

  • health promotion and disease prevention inclusive of health screening and disease surveillance
  • diagnosis and management of common illnesses/injuries
  • coordination of other levels of care to improve health outcomes for the patient and their families
Patient will have an ongoing relationship with a nurse practitioner.
 
  • NPs are experienced registered nurses (RN) who have complete an approved educational program at the Masters level that includes additional advanced clinical practice and academic training. Their education & training prepares them to diagnose/treat common health problems including prescribing medications, ordering tests, and referring patients to other healthcare providers including physician specialists 
 
  • NPs offer a distinctive blend of nursing & medical care to individuals and families
  • NPs work completely autonomously, with a broad scope of practice as advanced health care practitioners 
 
  • NPs are able to:
    • diagnose & treat common and predictable injuries and illnesses
    • prescribe medications
    • order diagnostic tests
    • make referrals to other health care providers
    • consult and collaborate with specialists and subspecialists in regards to patient care
