In many resource-constrained settings, medical care for endocrine conditions and for diabetes is absent or suboptimal. This is due to several factors, including lack of trained health professionals and insufficient funding for diagnostic tests and medications. The Global Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes (GPED) is a non-profit organization that aims to improve the care of children presented with endocrine disorders or with diabetes living in LMICs. GPED works with Regional Pediatric Endocrine Societies and local pediatric endocrinologists to facilitate a sustainable access to essential medicines that are not readily available, promotes resources for pediatric endocrinology and diabetes, facilitates specialized education for healthcare workers, and supports research by Pediatric Endocrinologists in LMICs.
