Being ‘an everyday hero’

Mark helped lead the expansion of the Vascular Access Team (VAT)'s services including the Pediatric IV Outpatient Therapy (PIVOT) Program, POKe (PICC Opportunities for Kids) Program and more. The VAT is now able to provide a higher level of service to ensure that patients have improved access to PICC lines, and are able to receive ongoing IV therapy at home. On T7, the clinical staff have recently been trained to care for patients with tracheostomies who may be ventilator-dependent. With more robust team roles, patients have benefited from access to care when and where it makes the most sense. These examples and more show how Mark uses his boundless compassion to support staff, patients and their families.
Mark’s nominator, Aliya Khan, general duty nurse, Specialty Medicine and Vascular Access Team (T7) said, “One of many things I appreciate about having Mark as a program manager is how respectful, inclusive, supportive, and compassionate he is. He actively listens to those around him and has brought a lot of positive change to our floor. Mark's pride and joy for his career are evident in all he does on and for the patients, families, and staff on the unit.”
Congratulations to Mark on his PHSA+ Award!
