After Your Visit

Here are some things to ask questions about or discuss during discharge planning, before you leave the hospital with your child:
- Medications or prescriptions your child will need
- How to care for your child outside of hospital
- Signs and symptoms that may require medical attention, and when to seek help. Discuss what is normal during the recovery process versus when to seek medical advice
- Written educational materials or online resources related to your child’s condition and recovery process
- Equipment and supplies you will need and where to get them
- Any follow-up appointments, including dates and times
- Who and what number to call if you have any questions - this could be the department or the clinic that was responsible for treating your child
After leaving hospital, if you are unsure of care instructions, please call the clinic or hospital department where your child received care.
If you don’t have this number, call the main hospital switchboard at 604-875-2345 for assistance.

Your child’s health
After leaving hospital, if your child’s symptoms suddenly get worse, visit our Emergency Department web page for details on when to seek care.
For medical emergencies, e.g. if your child is short of breath, call 9-1-1 immediately, or visit your nearest emergency department or urgent/primary care centre.
