Complex Feeding and Nutrition
The Complex Feeding and Nutrition Service is a part of the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at BC Children’s Hospital. It is comprised of six different clinics including:
- Complex Feeding Clinic
- Steps to Feeding – Tube Transition Clinic
- Swallowing Clinic
- Malnutrition Clinic
- Outpatient Nutrition Clinic
- Intestinal Rehabilitation Program Clinic (CHIRP)
Through these clinics, we provide consultative or ongoing services to children and youth as appropriate. These include medical management, nutrition counselling and feeding therapy.
We are committed to enhancing the health and well-being of patients, as well as their families, by providing family-centred care. We also provide nutrition and feeding education, and support health-care providers within BC Children’s Hospital and the community.
Referral information
You need a referral from a doctor, nurse practitioner, feeding therapist or registered dietitian to use this clinic. Health professionals can find out more on our referral page.
Your visit
Based on your child's specific needs, you may work with a range of professionals, such as a gastroenterologist, nurse practitioner, nurse, dietitian, occupational therapist or social worker.
We will provide personalized education and counselling for both your child and your family. We will ensure that health-care professionals involved in your child's care receive detailed reports.
If we need further, we may refer your child for diagnostic studies, such as a videofluoroscopic swallowing study, endoscopy or other tests.
For children with feeding difficulties, we might ask you to bring a sample of food to the appointment so we can observe their eating habits and better understand their challenges.
