Generation Health
Our team provides assessment and support to improve the health and well-being of children and teens. We work with families and caregivers to build the foundation for healthy living and to make healthy living changes that are meaningful to them.
We tailor our approach to the unique needs of every child or teen to support their growth and development.

Referral information
The Generation Health Clinic is available by referral from a doctor or nurse practitioner for children and youth who meet the eligibility criteria.
Parents/caregivers and the child or youth must be interested in making healthy living changes and be available to attend all appointments and group sessions.
Appointment details
Eligible families (parents/caregivers and child/teen) attend two to three initial appointments with the Generation Health Clinic team.
Assessment appointment
The assessment appointment is in-person or virtual. It takes approximately four hours.
Families or caregivers and their children or youth meet with a team of health-care providers who all play a role in care.
The doctor completes a medical assessment of the child or youth. They may also arrange and review the results of tests and other medical referrals. A mental health professional completes an assessment of the child or youth, which includes understanding their psychosocial and emotional needs.
A registered dietitian completes a nutrition and healthy living assessment.
After the assessment appointment, the team discusses support options that best fit a family’s needs.
Family feedback appointment
The family feedback appointment is in-person or virtual. It takes approximately one hour.
A registered dietitian and mental health professional meet with families two or three weeks after the initial assessment appointment to review assessment results and support options. They develop and discuss an individualized family-centred care plan.
Reschedule/no-show policy
We require at least 24 hours notice for rescheduling. You may only reschedule once before we require a new referral. Please call our office to notify us of a cancellation.
Group program
We invite families to join a group program that meets twice weekly over ten weeks. The group program includes:
- One fun interactive educational evening session (two hours) facilitated by a registered dietitian, a mental health professional and an exercise specialist
- One family fun activity weekend session (one hour) run by an exercise specialist from the YMCA
At least one parent or caregiver must be comfortable speaking, reading and understanding English.
Other support options
We may offer some families alternative support options instead of attending a group program, such as short-term individual support with our program team to support healthy living and mental well-being, or connections to other community resources.
