Child Protection Service Unit Referral
Our team includes social workers, pediatricians, nurses and psychologists. We also help connect children, youth and their families to community resources to ensure comprehensive care and support.
We provide medical and mental health assessments in a positive, relaxed, child-centred environment at the Child and Family Clinic.
Referral information
Patients need a referral from a doctor; or a social worker with the Ministry of Children and Family Development or an Indigenous child and family services agency. They can make referrals by phone or fax.
Referral steps
Our program’s social workers screen, triage and arrange clinic appointments. They may contact you to ask for additional information.
Our social workers are also available for telephone consultation with social workers with the Ministry of Children and Family Development or from Indigenous child and family services agencies.
If you are a social worker referring from the Ministry of Children and Family Development or from an Indigenous child and family services agency, you should attend the appointment with the child or youth and their family.
Please note: We require consent from the child’s legal guardian for any medical examinations. Appointments are typically 1 to 2 hours long.
In cases where a child protection investigation is being conducted, we will share the results of our examination with the child's legal guardian and with the referring agency.
