Paying for Care

Canadian citizens and permanent residents can access publicly funded health-care services by enrolling in our province’s medical insurance plan. Learn more about BC’s Medical Service Plan.
There is a cost for health-care services for non-residents and residents not enrolled in the provincial medical insurance plan.
This cost applies to:
- All visitors to Canada
- All those who do not have any provincial health-care coverage
- New/returning Canadian citizens
The BC Ministry of Health Services decides what the cost of care and services will be. Find costs for common medical care items (PDF).
