Endocrinology and Diabetes Training
Clinical rotations
The UBC Division of Pediatric Endocrinology offers one-month clinical rotations for medical students, pediatric residents and endocrinology fellows. In general, we give UBC students and residents priority over non-UBC Canadian-trained trainees. We cannot accommodate non-Canadian-trained students or residents at this time.
For more information on doing a clinical rotation with us:
- UBC medical students: we offer a one-month clinical rotation for fourth-year students only. We organize this through the usual rotation request channels
- Non-UBC, Canadian-trained medical students: a one-month clinical rotation may be available, space permitting. Visit the UBC Visiting Student Elective Program (VSEP) page for more information about applying. Students apply through the AFMC Student Portal. Read the specific criteria for UBC electives. In general, you must be in the final year of your medical studies to apply
- UBC/BC Children's Hospital pediatric residents: a one-month rotation is mandatory in the first year. A second elective rotation is possible in the third or fourth year
- Non-UBC, Canadian-trained pediatric residents: a one-month elective may be available, space permitting. Visit the UBC Postgraduate Education Visiting Electives page for more information about applying
Fellowship program
BC Children’s Hospital is offering a two-year accredited subspecialty resident training program in pediatric endocrinology and metabolism. We strongly encourage candidates to extend their training with a third year dedicated to clinical or basic research.
We aim to attract and develop highly motivated, intelligent, exceptional fellows who will become leaders in the field of pediatric endocrinology and metabolism.
Our fellowship program accepts applications from residents in Canadian pediatric training programs, as well as international applicants who have completed equivalent pediatric residency training. This fully accredited program offers a curriculum which meets and often exceeds Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada standards. Competitive funding is available for both Canadian and foreign graduates.
If you would like further information about our program, or would like to apply for fellowship training in pediatric endocrinology and metabolism, please contact program director Dr. Sanjukta Basak (sanjukta.basak@cw.bc.ca). We are currently accepting applications for a July 1, 2026 start date.
