Allergy Referral
Referral overview
We currently accept patients under the age of 17.
We accept referrals from doctors and nurse practitioners across BC and Yukon.
Referral steps
-
Assessment
Some routine assessments may require a more timely appointment than our clinic is able to provide.
We recommend re-directing to a community allergist for the following concerns:
- Isolated allergic rhinitis with a trial of standard medical management
- Environmental triggers of asthma
- Delayed benign rashes after amoxicillin (pediatric allergist recommended)
- Oral immunotherapy for a single food allergen
- Adolescents with non-urgent referrals who would be 18 years old by the time of appointment due to waitlist
- Infants or children with no history of ingestion of food(s) of concern (e.g. positive skin or sIgE testing only)
- Infants with a history of mild reaction to food(s)
We recommend re-directing to a community pediatrician for the following concerns:
- Isolated allergic rhinitis without a trial of standard medical management
- Food protein induced allergic proctocolitis (previously called CMPA)
- Acute urticaria (<6 weeks) with no identifiable trigger (e.g. suspected viral trigger)
- Concerns regarding foods causing behavioural problems (e.g. autism)
- Delayed benign rashes after amoxicillin (if comfortable with offering oral challenges)
- Mild isolated eczema
- Mild isolated or stable asthma
- Concerns regarding nutrition in the setting of chronic GI symptoms
- Concerns regarding food intolerance (e.g. lactose intolerance) or other non-specific GI symptoms

Please complete a referral form (PDF) and attach any previous specific IgE lab results, skin testing or allergy consultation from other doctors who have seen the patient.
-
Send the referral
Fax the completed referral form and any accompanying documents to 604-875-3653.

Post referral
Wait times vary, and we triage patients as referrals come in. We ask referring providers to notify our clinic if another care provider has already seen the patient in the interim or if consultation is no longer necessary.
