Playrooms

There are five dedicated playrooms across BC Children’s Hospital.
Playrooms are equipped with games and activities that are appropriate for children of a variety of age ranges, from infants to school-aged children.
Locations: Playrooms are located in the Teck Acute Care building on levels 3, 6, 7 and 8.
Playrooms on levels 3 and 8 are only open to patients and their siblings visiting or staying in that area.
Access to playrooms
Access to playrooms may vary depending on the location. Patients and siblings must be supervised by an adult such as a hospital volunteer, a Child Life specialist or a parent/caregiver at all times.
Speak to your child’s care team for guidance on accessing the playroom in your unit or area of the hospital.
We clean the playrooms twice per day to reduce the risk of infection for all visitors. However, if your child is unable to visit a playroom for medical reasons, hospital volunteers can often bring toys or games directly to patient rooms, upon request.
Teen lounges
BC Children’s Hospital has two dedicated teen lounges for patients 12 years of age and above. Teen lounges have board games, video games, crafts and other entertainment for older patients and siblings.
Locations: Teen lounges are located on floors 7 and 8 of the Teck Acute Care building. The lounge on floor 7 is open to all teens. The lounge on floor 8 is open to oncology patients and their siblings only.
