What we do
Our Medical Imaging Department uses a range of diagnostic tools, including:
- general radiography (X-ray)
- computed tomography (CT)
- ultrasound
- nuclear medicine
- magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
- specialized interventional procedures
Our technologists work closely with the care team to provide accurate and timely imaging, contributing to a holistic approach to patient treatment and management.

Training and development
BC Children’s Hospital offers clinical placements and mentorship programs for medical imaging technologists. Our facility’s state-of-the-art equipment and specialized imaging departments provide an ideal setting for developing advanced diagnostic and therapeutic skills, especially in pediatric and women’s health imaging.
Specialization in pediatric imaging
Technologists have the chance to work with advanced imaging techniques specific to pediatric care, gaining experience in procedures that are rare outside of specialized children’s hospitals. Our team fosters a supportive environment that encourages learning and professional development.
Positions require a diploma or degree in medical radiography, MRI, nuclear medicine or sonography. You must also be registered with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) or Sonography Canada. Experience in pediatric imaging is an asset.
Imaging technologists at BC Children’s Hospital typically work shifts ranging from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. Some positions also require on-call availability after hours, as well as coverage on weekends and statutory holidays to support emergency and inpatient care.
