Social Work Careers

Our social workers have bachelor's and master's degrees in social work. They bring essential skills and experience to support patients and families dealing with complex medical and mental health conditions.
We employ approximately 95 social workers across full-time, part-time and casual roles, providing direct care seven days a week.
What we do
Across BC Children’s Hospital and BC Women’s Hospital + Health Care Centre, social workers offer comprehensive support through:
- Assessment
- Counseling
- Care coordination
- Advocacy
- Practical assistance
With a family-centred approach, they consider the patient within their family and social context. They empower the health-care team to make informed, compassionate care decisions. Social workers take a lead role in crisis and grief counselling. They help families navigate the practical challenges of receiving medical care away from home. At discharge, they support families in planning for continued care at home.
Our Social Work Department values candidates committed to Indigenous cultural safety, cultural humility and trauma-informed practice, ensuring equitable, compassionate care for all.
