Specialized Pediatric Rehabilitation OUTpatient (SPROUT) Program
The Specialized Pediatric Rehabilitation OUTpatient (SPROUT) Program provides specialized rehabilitation services for children and youth up to 19 years of age. These services include:
- Support for recovery after surgery
- Preparation for upcoming surgeries (prehab)
- Care following an acute inpatient hospital stay
- Improving function to better manage chronic conditions
Our rehabilitation services include occupational therapy, physiotherapy, recreation therapy, aquatic therapy, school sessions, and speech-language therapy when available. Each patient's plan includes at least two types of therapy.
Referral information
To access our services, patients need a referral from a doctor or specialist. Providers can find more details on the SPROUT referral page.
Appointment details
After referral, and once we have confirmed eligibility to the program, the SPROUT team will create a rehabilitation plan that meets the patient’s needs. The booking team will contact the family or caregiver and the referring clinic with the admission details, and continue to talk with both about next steps.
We will set up an initial consultation to look more closely at the patient’s abilities and needs. This session will usually include at least one therapist, such as an occupational therapist (OT), physiotherapist (PT) or recreation therapist.
We share weekly schedules by email, phone or during visits. Rehabilitation plans may last from two to twelve weeks, with sessions one to five days a week, depending on the patient’s condition and goals.
