Visual Impairment
Our team sees children or youth with known and suspected visual impairments through Sunny Hill Health Centre and the Ophthalmology Department at BC Children’s Hospital.
The Visual Impairment Clinic is a provincial program. We provide specialized assessment and diagnosis services for children from birth to 19 years of age who have a suspected or known visual impairment.
Services include:
- Specialized clinical assessment of a child’s function based on their visual impairment and stage of life
- Helping families and caregivers understand their child’s vision level and vision impairment, and how it may affect their learning and developmental needs
- Resources, consultation and information to help community service providers meet the child’s health and developmental needs
Referral information
The visual impairment team sees children or youth who have suspected or confirmed vision impairment. You need a referral from a medical doctor or nurse practitioner to access these services.
Providers can find more details on the process via the Visual Impairment referral page.
